Peace Corps Guatemala is a post which currently has about 80 ‘normal’ Peace Corps Volunteers (PCVs) and hopes to build that number to 120. Included in their plan is to have approximately 15 Peace Corps Response Volunteers (PCRVs) in country, more than most countries.
I came in with a group of nine. Each of us has completed at least 2 years of PC service abroad, in countries such as El Salvador, Cape Verde, Colombia, Panama, Paraguay, the Dominican Republic, and Ecuador.
A fundamental part of these Peace Corps Response positions is that we are integrated within an agency or local government agency. Five of us are working in the same area – capacity building on Monitoring and Evaluation within Guatemala’s Secretariat of Food and Nutritional Security. The other four are working on other projects related to food security, health, and nutrition with such NGOs as Catholic Relief Services and Save the Children.
Other than that, we are just one sexy group of gingos.
